Practice Proposal
Silly guy, of course this is just the right fit ;o) After FC Service today we caught up with Jeph over a patio lunch at Chip's (dessert just a walk away at Wild About Harry's). On the walk back we stopped into the Abacus parking lot & Jeph snapped this oh-so-sincere proposal.

City of Hope Day

It was early to rise for our day of fellowship and volunteering in Dallas' City of Hope Day. Time well spent helping out with friends old and new :o)

Sailing Before The Storm
Great, but short afternoon on the water! After serving this morning we headed out to Lk Grapevine to meet up with our captain & admiral, Tim & Diane aboard s/v Coquette. It was the kick-off of the summer race series but was called due to thunderstorms as we were tacking up to the start line. Ah, well ... another race in a couple weeks :o)

Urban Assaulted :o)
This tough and incredibly fun crew from the Big D headed to Austin this weekend for the annual Urban Assault Race! (Think combo bike race, scavenger hunt & zany obstacle courses all in one crazy event.) Click here for the video!
A few others thought this was a cool race to play in (1300 of them)!
Gearing up the game faces
Greg, Candace, Ryun & Amanda
Monkey Matt & I unusually amped up this early in the morn
The view forward in our starting position ...
... and the view looking back at the sea of riders ready to roll.
Obstacle #1: Bumper Ball Pick-up
Whew ... got our first bead and racin' on ...
Human Wheel-Barrow and Keg Walkin' fun ...
Tire track toughness ... Dana captured it best on her blog of the race! Yes, those are battle wounds from street rolling & being mowed down by your own bike :o)
Here's what it's all about ... 'It's a pedal powered urban trek and scavenger hunt that involves obstacle course challenges that test your wits.' A full day of laughter, endurance and relying on your bike and friends. Check out Dana & Vijay's "Been There, Assaulted That" blog for more pics and videos of the zany adventures.

The Bikes Are Back In Town
It's here! The 2008 Urban Assault Ride weekend in Austin :o)
We rolled into Austin to picked up our race packets & headed out in our caravan to scout our ride route options. (Our three black vehicles looked quite covert as we passed other riders scouting their routes!) Once alleys & landmark checkpoints were mapped out, we relaxed over sushi dinner at Mikido's and rested for our big morning.

Gearing Up For The Urban Assault Race
It's a big day in our world ... we received the quiz that will determine our starting position in this year's Urban Assault Race in Austin this Sunday! This quiz is t-o-u-g-h, riddled with questions that require you to spend excessive amounts of time playing on the race sponsors' sites, & scouring Google & blogs. We're doing it & are amped!
This year we have some rock star teammates joining the action:
- Wench & Stench = Kim & Skip
- Gutter Bunnies = Candace & Greg
- Wonder Twins = Amanda & Ryun
- Cowgirl & Indian = Dana & Vijay
- Bikin' Believers = Christie & Matt

Reluctantly Returning
We woke up to our last morning aboard Thalia today and with heavy hearts we dingied ashore to return to land life. What a treat it has been to share this experience and we are so grateful to Lisa & Kirk for their generous hospitality, enlightening conversation & patience with our endless questions about their incredible lifestyle.
Meandered through the Smithsonian & caught a 3-D IMAX show
At just about the farthest walking point from where we parked, we got caught in a pretty rough thunderstorm. With a mix of running, walking to catch our breath, & laughing at the ridiculousness of it all - we returned to the car soaked like wet puppy dogs. Changed clothes, stopped for dinner, headed to the airport & slept like babies the entire flight home.

Downtown Annapolis
We spent the day exploring the "sailboat capital of the world", downtown Annapolis with Kirk and Lisa. We strolled through the local shops, made our way past "Ego Alley" and they treated us to lunch at McGarvey's along the city dock. We lounged on deck this evening with a stack of "TravelTopics" questions, learned more about each other, enjoyed the conversation and read as the sun set.
